This submission portal is for Original Research and Review Articles only - please see our website for Science Communication Article submission.

Following this guidance carefully will help ensure that your article can be published as quickly as possible. If you have any questions regarding submitting your article, please contact our Editor in Chief: editor@youthstem2030.org.

AUTHORSHIP

• Articles may be submitted by individuals or groups of young people who are age 22 or under. People who are age 23 and over may submit an article, providing all research was conducted while they were aged 22 or under, and within the past 3 years.
• Where the author is under the age of 13, their article should be submitted on their behalf by a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian will also be responsible for correspondence with Youth STEM Matters. This is due to GDPR regulations.
• Papers should only be submitted for consideration if consent has been given by all authors.
• The corresponding author will be responsible for communicating with Youth STEM Matters throughout the peer review process and will ensure the completion of any administrative requirements.
• Please note: we do not accept postgraduate submissions (i.e. Masters/Doctorate dissertations).

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

All articles submitted to Youth STEM Matters must be relevant to:
One or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals: The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals cover a broad range of issues, including improving health and education, ending inequalities, promoting economic growth and protecting our planet. If you’re not sure whether your article is relevant to the SDGs, check out this website and if you’re still unsure, just send us an email.
AND
At least one area of Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths: Your article can be based on any area(s) of science, technology, engineering and maths. We believe in a broad definition of STEM, and welcome submissions exploring all scientific disciplines.

All articles submitted to Youth STEM Matters must:
• Be the author’s own work.
• Be written in English (it’s fine for someone else, like a teacher or parent, to help you translate your work!).
• Meet Youth STEM Matters’ Ethical Guidelines for studies which include human or animal subjects.

Articles submitted to Youth STEM Matters cannot:
• Have been previously published by anyone. NB: By submitting to Youth STEM Matters you are agreeing that you will not submit your manuscript to other journals.
• Be political in nature - all articles should have a scientific basis.
• Contain any hateful or discriminatory content.

WRITING STYLE

All sections of your article should be clear, accurate and concise. It should be understandable to a broad audience of 12-22 year olds, but primarily to others who are at your educational stage.
All articles should be written in past tense, and an impersonal voice (i.e. avoid I, my, we, us, etc.).

SUBMISSION FORMAT

All articles should be submitted as Microsoft Word documents - if you don’t have access to this, please get in contact and we can help convert your file.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

Authors should explicitly declare any conflicts of interest on their article’s title page. This could include association with any individual, company or organisation (public, private or charity sector) who could directly benefit financially from the submitted work.

TO SUBMIT YOUR ARTICLE, YOU WILL NEED TO UPLOAD

• Your article (including all your figures, tables and graphs), in Microsoft Word document format
• Your completed and signed Author Checklist
